Gallery: Artists and Lovers Series

I consider this series of sixteen acrylics on canvas to be my most important series. My reasoning comes from its art historical orientation and the psychological influence that lovers and significant others have had on the development of these particular artists' abilities. Needless to say, talent is not enough. My paintings were done between 1994 and 2001.

That some relationships were imperative to the artist's production is exemplified by William and Catherine Blake. Without Catherine's loving help it's doubtful that William could have produced what he did. The stormy relationship between Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera actually fed the talents of both. While the destructive relationship between Camille Claudel and Auguste Rodin ended sadly for both, artistically and personally. As to Picasso, his passion for his work seemed to thrive and survive no matter what happened in his personal life. In short, each painting tells a story and whenever I showed the series, a one-page statement was placed alongside each painting, documenting the relationships between the artists and their significant others with full attention to art historical accuracy.
