Gallery: Gouaches
Below you will find examples from each of four gouache series. All are approximately the same size and done on archival rag board. The dates on the series vary, as does the content which will be noted before presentation of each series.

Contemporary Reflections
This series reflects my observations of other women friends and colleagues over the years. It shows me that many of us share the same feelings and attitudes. Some of the works are intensely emotional, but most are humorous, even satirical, offering a glimpse of the California lifestyle. There are twenty works in this series.

Couples
This is my most satirical series. All gouaches here are 22" x 27" and are open jabs at the nouveau riche, whose faces often grace the society pages. It seems that no matter what horrors are taking place in the world, they just dance on, displaying their finery. There are eight works in the series.

Homer's Odyssey Revisited
According to the W.H.D. Rouse translation of Homer's Odyssey, many think of it as the best story ever written and certainly one which has been enjoyed for over three thousand years, starting first as oral history, then put into writing by Homer. Essentially, it deals with the aftermath of the Trojan War, the Illiad dealing with the war itself. The Odyssey focuses on the long and hazardous journey home which Ulysses experienced in order to get home to his beloved wife, Penelope, and son Telemachos. It is a story of the power and endurance of love. There are nine paintings in this series.

La Corrida (Bullfights)
This is a series of ten gouaches satirizing the bullfights which to many are a wonderful spectacle, while to me they are a hateful, unsporting event from the bull's point of view. It was the pageantry and beauty of costumes and paraphernalia which drew me to the series, along with the opportunity to satirize it. The bullfights in France and some areas of Spain are far more humane than in Mexico where I photographed the series.
